CLAA Grade 11 Certificate

<p>The Grade 11 Certificate is conferred upon students who complete the eleventh-grade course of studies in the Classical Liberal Arts Academy — the third year of the Academy's classical secondary curriculum, and the third of the four annual certificates that culminate in the Academy's accredited High School Diploma.</p> <p>In the eleventh grade, the student's early labors begin to bear their fruit: in Latin and Greek he now reads the classic authors themselves, entering the company of the poets, orators, and historians whose works formed Western civilization; the art of Rhetoric is taken up, perfecting his ability to communicate truth persuasively and fittingly, with eloquence ordered to the service of wisdom; the mathematical arts continue their ascent from sensible things to intelligible ones; and his reading now opens toward philosophy itself, preparing the mind for the study of Aristotle and the Schoolmen that crowns a classical education. Throughout, the study of Sacred Scripture and Catholic doctrine holds every subject to its true end. Modern requirements in mathematics, sciences, and social studies are fulfilled within this course of studies — as servants of a classical education, not substitutes for one.</p> <p>Every requirement of the certificate is published, and progress is measured by demonstrated mastery: the student advances by proving that he knows each lesson, not by the passage of a school year. Families may follow their student's progress requirement by requirement, and when the full standard is met, the certificate is conferred by the Headmaster's own hand and permanently recorded in the student's academic record — the third milestone marked, the diploma now in sight.</p>
