ELA-301 · English Composition I

The CLAA's ELA-301 English Composition I course provides a thorough introduction to the art of written composition using Stratton Brooks' English Composition, Book One. This course guides students through the expression of ideas in narration and description, the development of paragraphs, the composition of whole essays, sentence construction, correctness in usage, choice of words, figures of speech, letter writing, exposition, argument, and English grammar. Lessons emphasize thinking as the foundation of writing, training students to express their thoughts freely, clearly, and forcibly while mastering one principle at a time. Ideal for students beginning formal composition study, this course builds the essential skills required for English Composition II and for a lifetime of accurate and fluent writing.
